The A-10 Thunderbolt II, known as the "Warthog", is a single-seat attack aircraft designed to support ground forces at close range. It has a 30mm GAU-8/A Gatling gun and heavy titanium plate defenses. The aircraft can carry a variety of weapons and is capable of operating from unprepared airfields. It has been used successfully in conflicts such as the Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan. It will serve in the US Air Force until 2028, when it will be replaced by the F-35 Lightning II.
