An-225 Antonov
The An-225 Mriya is the largest aircraft in the world developed in the 1980s by the Soviet Antonov design bureau. It is a six-engine aircraft with a payload capacity of up to 250 tons, making it ideal for transporting extremely large and heavy loads. The An-225 was developed as a transport aircraft to carry space rockets and modules under the Soviet Union's Buran programme. The aircraft was to be capable of carrying the Buran space shuttle on its stern. In 1988, the An-225 was first introduced to the public and achieved several world records in the cargo aircraft category. The aircraft is 84 metres long, has a wingspan of 88.4 metres and a height of 18.1 metres. It is powered by six Lotarev D-18T turboprop engines with a total output of 300,000 lbf. The An-225 has a maximum speed of 850 km/h and a range of up to 15,400 km.
