Avro Lancaster
The Avro Lancaster was a British strategic bomber used during World War II. It was developed in 1941 by Avro as a replacement for older aircraft such as the Handley Page Halifax and Short Stirling. The Lancaster was equipped with four Rolls-Royce Merlin piston engines, which enabled it to reach speeds of up to 462 km/h and carry up to 6 tons of bombs. Its armament consisted of eight 7.7 mm Browning machine guns, which were located in various positions along the length of the aircraft. The Lancaster was deployed on a number of challenging missions during World War II, including the famous attack on the German city of Cologne in 1942. In 1943, Lancasters were used to destroy dams in the German Alps as part of Operation Chastise. The Lancaster was produced in various versions and was also used after World War II, for example in the Korean War.
