BAe Harrier
The BAe Harrier (also known as the Hawker Siddeley Harrier) is a British single-engine vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) fighter aircraft. It was developed in the 1960s and is one of the best known aircraft with VTOL capability. The Harrier was originally designed as an attack aircraft for the UK Royal Air Force and was deployed in several conflicts, including the Falklands War and the Gulf War. The aircraft had vertical take-off and landing capability, allowing it to operate from small, unpaved and improvised landing areas. The Harrier was powered by a single jet engine and could reach speeds of up to 1,050 km/h. It was armed with a cannon and various types of rockets and bombs. It had modern avionics, including radar and tracking and control systems. Several versions of the Harrier were produced over the years, including a version for pilot training, a version for naval aviation and a version for export abroad. The Harrier became a popular aircraft in many air forces and was also licensed to several countries, including Spain, India and Thailand. In 2010, production of the Harrier was discontinued, but the aircraft is still in service in several countries and is considered a classic among fighter aircraft.
