Bristol Beaufort
The Bristol Beaufort was a British twin-engine bomber aircraft that was deployed during World War II. The aircraft was designed by the Bristol Aeroplane Company as a replacement for obsolete aircraft types such as the Blenheim. The Beaufort was powered by a pair of Bristol Taurus engines of 1,065 hp each and could carry up to 907 kg of bombs. It also had 7.7 mm and 12.7 mm machine guns for defence against enemy aircraft. The Beaufort first entered combat service in 1940 during the Battle of Britain, when it was used as a fighter and bomber aircraft. In later phases of the war, it was deployed in areas such as Africa, the Middle East and the Pacific, where it was used to attack enemy land targets such as ports, ships and bases. A total of 1,180 Bristol Beaufort aircraft were produced, in several versions. After the end of the war, the aircraft was gradually replaced by more modern types.
