Douglas DC-6
The Douglas DC-6 was a transport aircraft produced by the Douglas Aircraft Company from 1946 to 1958. It was a continuation of the previous successful DC-4 type. The DC-6 had a more modern design and an improved structure that allowed for increased speed and range. The DC-6 was powered by four piston engines and was designed to carry up to 90 passengers. The aircraft was equipped with modern avionics that allowed the aircraft to take off and fly regardless of weather and at night. The DC-6 became very popular for transporting passengers and cargo around the world. During the production of the DC-6, various variants of the aircraft were created, including military versions for the air force and navy of some countries. The DC-6 was gradually replaced by more modern aircraft, such as the DC-7 and the Boeing 707, and was retired from regular airline service in the 1970s. In all, more than 700 DC-6s were produced for various airlines and military organizations. DC-6s are still in service today as a historical aircraft only, such as at airshows.
