De Havilland Tiger Moth
The De Havilland Tiger Moth is a British two-seat biplane designed for pilot training and sport flights. It was developed in 1931 by de Havilland and became one of the most successful and popular aircraft in this category. The Tiger Moth had a metal fuselage and wooden wings with canvas coverings. It was powered by a 130 hp De Havilland Gipsy Major inline twin-cylinder engine and had a speed of up to 165 km/h (102 mph). The Tiger Moth became a popular pilot training aircraft during World War II and also served as a liaison and observation aircraft. Over 8,800 Tiger Moths were produced during the war. After the war, many Tiger Moths were sold to private owners and became popular for sport flying and aerobatic performances. Today, some Tiger Moths are still in service as historic aircraft, used for tourist flights and special events. The Tiger Moth is also known for its distinctive appearance and is often used in films and television series set during the Second World War.
