De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter
The De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter is a turboprop aircraft designed for short and landing on places with unpaved runways. It was manufactured by De Havilland Canada from 1965 to 1988. The Twin Otter is equipped with two Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-27 turboprop engines rated at 620 horsepower. It has a top speed of 298 kilometres per hour and a range of up to 1,609 kilometres, allowing it to carry 19 passengers. The aircraft can reach an altitude of up to 8,535 metres. The DHC-6-300 has become very popular for its ability to land and take off from unpaved runways and its ability to fly in challenging conditions such as mountainous areas and the Arctic. The aircraft is often used in remote areas to transport passengers and cargo, such as tourist destinations, air ambulance, reconnaissance and industrial purposes. The DHC-6-300 Twin Otter was in production until 1988, but upgraded versions such as the Viking Air Twin Otter Series 400 currently exist.
