The F-100D Super Sabre was a supersonic fighter aircraft developed by North American for the United States Air Force (USAF) during the Cold War. It was an improved variant of the original F-100A, with improved avionics, and served as a key component of the USAF in the 1950s and 1960s. The single-seat F-100D was designed as a fighter-bomber capable of conducting air and ground attacks and played a significant role during the Cold War and in wartime conflicts, including the Vietnam War. It measured 15.2 metres in length and had a wingspan of 11.8 metres. It was equipped with a single Pratt & Whitney J57-P-21/21A engine and reached a top speed of approximately Mach 1.3 (1,600 km/h). Its armament included a wide range of air and ground equipment such as bombs, rockets and air-to-air missiles. The F-100D Super Sabre played a significant role in the early years of the Cold War and is known for its speed and combat capabilities, representing a key step in the evolution of fighter aircraft.
