The F-117 Nighthawk is a low-detectability attack aircraft created in the 1970s and 1980s by Lockheed Martin's Skunk Works division. It was first deployed in 1991 as part of the Gulf War, where it proved to be an effective aircraft for attacking targets in Iraq. It was retired from service in 2008 and replaced by newer aircraft. The F-117 was highly classified and denied by the US government until 1988.
