Folland Gnat
The Folland Gnat was a British light fighter aircraft that was designed and manufactured in the 1950s by Folland Aircraft. It first flew in 1955 and served as a trainer and combat aircraft for the RAF and other countries. The Gnat was designed as a light, fast and manoeuvrable aircraft for pilot training, but also as a fighter aircraft designed to defend against attacks by high-speed bombers. It was equipped with a single 7.62 mm machine gun and could carry up to four 28 kg rockets or two 113 kg bombs. The Gnat was also used as an exhibition aircraft and participated in many air shows around the world, including the Red Arrows, a flying team of the British Royal Air Force. In total, more than 450 Folland Gnats were produced for use in various countries, including India, Finland, Yugoslavia and India. A licensed model of the Gnat, called the HAL Ajeet, was also developed and produced in India.
