Folland Gnat
The Folland Gnat was a British light fighter aircraft designed and manufactured in the 1950s by Folland Aircraft. It first flew in 1955 and served as a training and combat aircraft for the RAF and other countries. The Gnat was designed as a light, fast and manoeuvrable aircraft for pilot training, but also as a fighter aircraft for defence against attacks by high-speed bombers. It was equipped with a single 7.62mm machine gun and could carry up to four 28kg rockets or two 113kg bombs. The Gnat was also used as an exhibition aircraft and participated in many air shows around the world, including the Red Arrows, the flight team of the British Royal Air Force. In total, more than 450 Folland Gnat were produced for use in various countries including India, Finland and Yugoslavia. A licensed model of the Gnat called the HAL Ajeet was also developed and produced in India.
