The Heinkel He-162 Salamander was a German single-seat fighter aircraft developed for the Luftwaffe in 1944. The aircraft was designed to be produced quickly and cheaply, and was to be powered by the Jumo 004 turbine engine. The He-162 was light, fast and agile, but dangerous for less experienced pilots. The aircraft was combat deployed in April 1945, but production was limited by lack of raw materials and experience in turbine engine production. The He-162 had a significant influence on the development of modern fighter aircraft, and several were used to test new technologies in the aircraft industry after the war.
