Ilyushin Il-18
The Ilyushin Il-18 is a four-engine turboprop aircraft with a capacity of up to 120 passengers developed by the Soviet Ilyushin design bureau in the mid-1950s. It was the first Soviet civil aircraft equipped with turboprop engines. The Il-18 was originally designed to carry passengers on short and medium routes, but was later modified for long ocean crossings. The aircraft was equipped with four high-performance Ivchenko AI-20 turboprop engines and had sufficient performance for long-distance flights. The Il-18 was very popular in the Soviet Union and other Warsaw Pact countries, but was also exported to other countries. The aircraft was used for both civilian and military purposes, including transporting troops and materiel. Today, all civilian Il-18s have been decommissioned, but some military versions are still in service in some countries as transport and reconnaissance aircraft.
