The aircraft is powered by a pair of Pratt & Whitney JT8D-219 engines, which allow it to reach a top speed of 871 kilometres per hour. The MD-83 was a popular aircraft during the 1980s and 1990s and was used by many airlines around the world. The MD-83 was produced from 1984 to 1999, during which time a total of 265 units were produced. The aircraft was used for passenger transport, cargo transport and military operations.
