The Mi-8 helicopter (in NATO code "Hip") is a Russian medium-heavy helicopter that was developed in the 1960s. It is one of the most widely used helicopters in the world, serving not only with the militaries of many countries, but also with civilian organizations such as firefighters, rescue services, reconnaissance flights and cargo transport. The Mi-8 helicopter has a capacity of up to 24 passengers and can be equipped with various equipment, including lifeboats, special cameras for reconnaissance flights or parachutes for airborne operations. The helicopter is powered by two turboshaft engines, allowing it to reach speeds of up to 250 km/h and carry cargo weighing up to 4,000 kg. The Mi-8 was developed as a multi-purpose helicopter that can perform a variety of tasks. In the military field, it is used as a transport, airborne or reconnaissance helicopter. In the civilian sector, it is used as a firefighting, rescue, ambulance, transport or reconnaissance helicopter. Production of the Mi-8 helicopter began in 1961 and has been produced in many versions and mods, including an upgraded version of the Mi-17. In total, more than 17,000 units of this helicopter have been produced, making it one of the most successful helicopters in history.
