Mi-4 Hound
The Mi-4 Hound was the first mass-produced helicopter in the Soviet Union and the first Soviet helicopter to be exported abroad. Production of the Mi-4 began in 1952 and the helicopter was first publicly introduced at the 1955 Moscow Air Show. The Mi-4 Hound was designed for passenger and cargo transport, reconnaissance and rescue operations. The helicopter was equipped with an Ivchenko AI-26V engine with a power of 1,470 kW and could carry up to 8 passengers or 1,000 kg of cargo. In the reconnaissance version it was equipped with a camera and armament such as machine guns, cannons and unguided rockets. The Mi-4 was deployed in many conflicts, such as the Korean War and the Vietnam War. The helicopter was also used by civilian organizations for rescue and transport purposes. Production of the Mi-4 was discontinued in 1964, over 3,200 of this series were produced in various versions.
