The MiG-15 Fagot was an important Soviet jet fighter developed in the 1950s by the MiG (Mikoyan-Gurevich) design bureau. Powered by the Klimov VK-1 engine, it was capable of speeds up to around Mach 0.9 (over 1,100 km/h) and altitudes over 15,000 metres. The basic armament consisted of two 23 mm calibre cannons mounted in the fuselage. The MiG-15 became a key aircraft of the Cold War and left a lasting imprint on aviation history with its powerful capabilities and ease of operation and maintenance. Its importance and successes led to competition and subsequent development of new aircraft in the West. This aircraft laid the foundation for the development of modern jet aviation and became an icon of its time.
