The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-31 is a Soviet and Russian two-seat supersonic fighter aircraft, developed in the 1970s as a successor to the MiG-25. It is designed to intercept and destroy targets at long ranges, including bombers and reconnaissance aircraft. The MiG-31 is equipped with two R-33D-300 afterburner engines, which allow it to reach speeds of up to 3,000 km/h (approximately Mach 2.8) and altitudes of up to 20 kilometres. The aircraft is also equipped with advanced electronic systems, including a radar that allows it to detect targets at long ranges and with high accuracy. The MiG-31 has been deployed in several conflicts, including the war in Afghanistan and the 2008 conflict between the Russians and Georgians. Currently, the aircraft is still in active service with the Russian Air Force and some other countries. The MiG-31 is also being used as the basis for the development of an upgraded version, designated the MiG-31BM, which incorporates upgraded electronic systems and the ability to carry modern cruise missiles such as the R-37 and KS-172 types, allowing the aircraft to effectively defend airspace at long ranges.
