The Vought F4U Corsair was an American fighter aircraft with a distinctive wing area, powered by a radial engine and armed with six machine guns or four cannons. It was used during World War II in the Pacific Theater and gained a reputation as one of the best fighter aircraft of the time. In 1945, it set a speed record for piston aircraft.
