USS Ticonderoga
The Ticonderoga class was designed as a replacement for the older Leahy class, and its main role was air defense of the US Navy's battalions. The cruisers of this class are armed with an advanced system of SM-2 and SM-6 anti-aircraft cruise missiles that can shoot down targets at long ranges. The USS Ticonderoga is 172 meters long and displaces over 9 thousand tons. It is powered by four General Electric LM2500 gas turbines, which allow it to reach speeds of over 30 knots. On board are one 127mm gun, two 20mm Phalanx CIWS guns and eight missile launchers for SM-2 and SM-6 missiles. The ship is equipped with advanced radars and other electronic systems that allow her to track and identify targets at long ranges. USS Ticonderoga was actively deployed during the Cold War and in the years following. The ship participated in operations such as Operation Desert Storm in 1991 and the Iraq War in 2003. After more than 30 years of service, the USS Ticonderoga was decommissioned in 2004.
