Westland Gazelle
The Westland Gazelle is a light multi-purpose military helicopter designed and manufactured by the British company Westland Helicopters. It first flew in 1967 and has since been deployed in more than 20 countries. The helicopter is powered by two Rolls-Royce Gazelle turboshaft engines and has a crew of two. It is a very fast helicopter with a top speed of over 300 km/h and a range of over 670 km. The Westland Gazelle also has very good manoeuvring capabilities and is capable of low flight altitudes. The Westland Gazelle can be equipped with a variety of weapons and equipment such as machine guns, rocket pods or optical and electronic sensors. The helicopter is used for a variety of tasks, including reconnaissance, rescue missions, convoy escort, counter-terrorism and anti-submarine warfare. In total, more than 1,700 Westland Gazelles have been produced in various variants. The helicopter has been replaced by more modern types in many countries, but is still in service with several armies and also with civilian operators.
